I bought this so I could take my nice 17.3" ASUS ROG Laptop on deployment with me without worrying if it will become plastic scraps during our rough military transport and spartan way of life. AND man did this thing do the job or what! I could have put my laptop in it and used it as a shield without worrying about any damage, though not for long probably given its weight. Thankfully, my SGT's never realized that it weighed so much, that it could be used as training weight capable of making the best PT scorer (most fit) beg for mercy within minutes.During a transportation flight, Personal luggage was assembly line tossed and piled (always tossed, never placed) on the floor down the center of the aircraft at ones feet and the pile secured'ish with netting.As I watched my foolish enlisted brethren, look at their bags and back at the growing pile in dread as they had little choice in the matter, everything goes in the pile. They handed off their bags looking worried for the safety of their beloved laptops. I handed off mine in this monster of a case, restraining myself from telling the flight chief (or so) to do his worst, as he admired the case before throwing it in the pile.Though that flight and the evasive maneuvers it featured, worthy of the best roller-coaster rides, the deployment it did its job. My now old laptop, unfortunately still woks without a scratch.Ok, now the details. Laptop, charger ect, fits snug and perfectly. This thing does what it was intended to do and does it well.CONS: it is HEAVY.- The coloring paint for the numbers has begun to fade after ~3 years, still works though.- At around 2 years of use I tested it in water for the first time, a very minor leak was noted in the back due to a faulty O-Ring. Support contacted, replacement O-Ring Delivered.Always check and maintain your equipment. O-Rings can require replacement.Suggestions-This case delivers extreme levels of protection, far beyond what is likely need for the average consumer. Its durability and heft is also its weakness, I think Pelican could lessen its weight at the cost of some protection level by remaking it in their new AIR plastic. I doubt the difference in durability would be enough to be noticed or impact most people.
